Dredging works

The operation of water bodies (river areas, coastal waters, lakes, ponds, canals, etc.) often requires dredging of the bottom. This can be considered one of the most complex procedures, since the work is carried out directly on the bed of the water body.
Dredgers of Ukraine provides services for deepening water bodies and widening or changing riverbeds by removing excess underwater soil and transporting it away. We carry out dredging works using dredgers of various capacity classes, equipped with advanced high-precision equipment and designed with the specific requirements of different operating conditions in mind. This approach makes it possible to achieve the required result at minimal cost, since there is no need to use a whole fleet of construction machinery. Finally, using dredgers for dredging works may be the only option in places that conventional equipment cannot reach and where machinery cannot be delivered on truck platforms.
Types of Dredging Works
Dredging works may be required in a wide variety of cases:
- when a new navigable waterway needs to be created;
- to deepen existing navigable waterways;
- to install utility networks on the bottom of water bodies;
- to increase the area or depth of a natural or artificial reservoir;
- when building a pier, bridge or any other hydraulic structure.
In some cases, dredging works may serve other purposes as well. Dredgers are used for deepening the bottom when it is necessary to:
- prevent erosion of the bottom soil;
- optimize the flow in the channel and ecological processes;
- eliminate the risk of bank collapse or subsidence.
Along with deepening the bottom, it becomes possible to simultaneously create beach areas, develop recreation zones, and carry out land reclamation by hydraulic filling to form an artificial island or a soil base for other activities. All these secondary tasks can be accomplished using the soil raised from the bottom of the water body during excavation.
It is also worth noting that maintenance dredging is carried out repeatedly. Depending on the rate of siltation, the rate of sediment build-up in channels and how often obstacles to navigation arise, such work may be performed at regular intervals. In this case, a dredger becomes the most efficient solution, achieving the goals without additional costs in terms of either time or money. The excavated soil is easily transported through a discharge pipeline to adjacent areas.
Specifics of Dredging with a Dredger
It is important to understand that any hydraulic engineering works using a dredger are a complex set of processes and operations that require a professional approach. That is why careful calculations and on-site measurements are carried out before dredging begins.
Specialists must determine the volume of soil to be removed from the bottom, choose the method and location for disposing of the bottom sediment, coordinate all stages of the work, and even calculate the potential environmental impact.
Before dredging begins, a thorough analysis of the condition of the water body, its banks, bottom and channels is carried out.
The equipment to be used is selected and the methods of excavating soil from the bottom are determined. When carrying out dredging works of varying complexity, Dredgers of Ukraine uses floating excavators, floating cranes, suction dredgers and other equipment, which makes it possible to deliver the project to the customer efficiently, on schedule, at minimal cost and in full compliance with the design conditions.
